Paddy Considine and Elliot Grihault, who played King Viserys Targaryen and Prince Lucerys, respectively, in House of the Dragon, are sadly two players who are unlikely to return as both died at the end of season 1.
Paddy Considine will also not be joining the season two cast. Sadly, King Viserys has renounced his crown on the Iron Throne and ordered his squabbling children to kill each other to get it back.
Designated successor Rhaenyra Targaryen will be played by Emma D’Arcy once again as she struggles to establish her rightful place on the Iron Throne. He is sure to face further obstacles from Queen Alice, who will bring back Olivia Cooke.
The “younger” Aegon Targaryen, Viserys Targaryen, and Joffrey Velaryon, younger Rhaenyra descendants, could grow into new crew members in the future. Daeron Targaryen, the second child of Alicent and Viserys, didn’t stand a chance. In the TV adaptation, he seems to have been kicked out of the family tree.
What’s the Plot of House of the Dragon Season 2?

When Will House of the Dragon Season 2 be Released?

While it was widely known that production would not begin for several months, the news shouldn’t come as a surprise. In March 2023, D’Arcy and the other actors are expected to resume filming. Therefore, a release date of 2024 seems the most plausible, although the specific day of 2024 is still up in the air.

The higher-ups of the House of the Dragon change administration, as do the Targaryens. Miguel Sapochnik, co-showrunner who directed three episodes of Season 1, left his position after filming for Season 1 wrapped.
While no official explanation was offered, it seems the demands of the position – Sapochnik spent three years working on House of the Dragon just for Season 1 after helming some of Game of Thrones’ most grueling episodes – were becoming too much for him. Sapochnik will continue to serve as executive producer while Ryan Condal will continue to be the show’s sole writer.
