Eida’s imperfect Shinjutsu was the reason everyone’s memories were rewritten. Momoshiki has stated that humans cannot withstand the full power of Shinjutsu and use it to its fullest. This is probably why Eida’s power rewrote everyone’s memories to switch Kawaki and Boruto’s places, almost like an advanced and complicated application of Genjutsu. However, there may be hope for Boruto’s future.
Kawaki always feels jealous and envious of Boruto’s life. Kawaki has faced many hardships in life and never knew what a parent’s love for a friend is like because of the way he was raised. Boruto Chapter 80 recap
From chapter 80 leaks, the plot so far seems that Boruto is on the run after being accused of killing Naruto. Shikamaru asks Eida if she is sure that Boruto is the one who killed Naruto, and Eida readily agrees. Shikamaru announces to the residents of Konoha that Boruto has killed their Hokage, Naruto, and is currently on the run. Eida is very confused by Kawaki’s actions and asks if there is a need to make such a big fuss.
Kawaki ignores him and tells Eida his plan is to keep Naruto under wraps until he kills Boruto. Sarada is completely devastated upon hearing this news, and Mitsuki goes after Boruto, angry at the whole situation. Sasuke looks for Sarada, and Sarada informs him that Mitsuki has gone to kill Boruto. Sasuke seems to be under the influence of Eida’s powers and tells him that Mitsuki’s reaction is only natural.
Much to Sarada’s relief, Sumire reaches out to Sarada, and it seems that neither of them are affected by Eida’s power. Sarada tries to explain to Sasuke that Boruto isn’t the villain, but after his attempts fail, she unlocks her Mangekyō Sharingan and tells Sasuke to save Boruto. Sasuke enters and saves Boruto, telling him about the time Saskuke met Kawaki and how he made Kawaki his apprentice, and how they defeated Momoshiki together.
Sasuke tells Boruto that he doesn’t trust his own memory and that he trusts his daughter’s judgment. If Sarada asks him to save Boruto, then he will, and Sasuke’s confidence is strengthened when he sees Boruto holding his headband. Eida witnessed everything, and Momoshiki was furious that Boruto had the support not only from Sarada but also from Sasuke, who had decided to risk his life for Boruto.
Momoshiki tells Boruto that whatever has happened cannot be undone and asks Boruto to hand over his body to Momoshiki. Boruto smiled and said that he has the blood of his grandfather, father and mother and he carries the will of fire. Boruto starts preparing himself, making himself stronger to face Kawaki and beat him. He told himself that he would finally end this “sibling fight” once and for all.
